MSME Awards 2026 Categories
Eighteen awards honour every dimension of modern enterprise — from first-generation founders to multi-decade institutions.
Open for organisation registration. MSMEs, enterprises, startups and institutions may register and nominate on behalf of their organisation, selecting up to two categories.
A1MSME of the Year — Manufacturing
Open to manufacturing MSMEs that can show sustained performance rather than a single strong year. Judges look for consistent growth in output or turnover, quality control and process discipline, and the operational strength to meet orders reliably.
A2MSME of the Year — Services
For service businesses of any description, from logistics and professional services to hospitality and maintenance. The jury weighs service quality, client retention and the systems that keep delivery consistent as the business grows.
A3Emerging Enterprise of the Year
Intended for startups and younger businesses that have moved beyond the idea stage into demonstrable traction. Judges assess the clarity of the problem being solved, early evidence of demand, and whether the operating model can hold up as volumes rise.
A4Women-Led Enterprise Award
For enterprises founded or led by women, where that leadership is substantive rather than nominal. The panel considers the scale of the business, the decisions the leader has owned, and the durability of what has been built.
A5Young Entrepreneur Award
Recognises founders under 40 whose achievements stand up against businesses run by people with far longer records. Judges look at what the founder personally drove, the judgement shown in difficult decisions, and the results that followed.
A6Legacy Business Award
For enterprises that have carried on across generations without coasting on their history. The panel looks for continuity of standards alongside genuine adaptation, whether new markets, new methods or new lines that kept the business relevant.
B1Innovation Excellence Award
For original products, processes or business models that have been put into practice, not merely designed. Judges assess how novel the work genuinely is, the problem it addresses, and the measurable difference it has made.
B2Digital Transformation Award
Recognises technology adopted sensibly at MSME scale, where budgets and technical staff are limited. The jury looks for a clear reason the technology was chosen, evidence that staff actually use it, and improvement in a measure the business cares about.
B3Creative & Design Enterprise Award
Open to media, design, entertainment and other creative businesses. Judges consider the strength of the creative work alongside the commercial discipline that sustains it, since both are needed for a creative enterprise to last.
B4Export Excellence Award
For MSMEs competing successfully in international markets. The panel examines the markets entered, how compliance, certification and logistics were handled, and whether export business has become a dependable part of revenue.
C1Green Enterprise Award
For enterprises that can point to measurable environmental results rather than stated intentions. Judges look for baseline figures, the changes made, and what those changes achieved in energy, waste, water or emissions.
C2Social Impact Award
Recognises enterprises addressing a real community problem as part of how they do business. The jury considers who benefits, how the benefit is evidenced, and whether the work continues without external funding.
C3Rural & Grassroots Enterprise Award
For businesses whose work strengthens local economies outside major urban centres. Judges look at employment created locally, the supply chains supported, and how the enterprise has handled constraints in infrastructure, credit or skills.
C4Skilling & Employment Generation Award
For enterprises that create jobs and build capability in their workforce. The panel considers the number and quality of roles created, the training provided, and what happened to the people trained.
D1Visionary Leader Award
Recognises entrepreneurial leadership judged on decisions and their consequences. The jury looks for direction set in uncertain conditions, difficult choices owned, and an organisation capable of continuing without constant intervention.
D2MSME Support Institution Award
For incubators, associations, chambers and other bodies that enable MSMEs to grow. Judges assess the range and depth of support given, and the outcomes of the enterprises served.
D3Brand & Communication Excellence Award
For brand-building that is authentic to the enterprise and effective in its market. The panel looks at clarity of positioning, consistency across channels, and whether communication has moved recognition or trust.
D4Lifetime Achievement Award
Conferred by invitation for a distinguished contribution to the MSME sector over a career. This category is not open to direct application and entries are not accepted for it.
Not sure which category fits?
An applicant may enter up to two categories. Most enterprises find that one category reflects the overall business and a second reflects a particular strength, such as exports, environmental work or the way a team has been built. Entering more widely than that rarely helps, because a thin entry spread across several categories gives the jury less to assess than a considered entry in one. If you are weighing two options, choose the category whose criteria you can evidence most fully and begin your nomination there.
The jury may move an entry to a category that fits it better. This happens during review, when panellists have read the submission in full and can see where it sits most fairly against comparable entries. Entrants are informed if their entry is moved, and no separate application or fee is required. The stages of the evaluation process explain when that review takes place and what happens afterwards.
